IPL skin treatments
Skin ages due to excessive sun exposure and decreased production of collagen. The safe, visible light emitted from the flash-lamp in IPL skin treatments makes your face look smoother by removing age spots, uneven pigmentation patches, redness and small broken capillaries and by improving your skin texture. Many people report that it becomes easier to apply makeup.
The flash-lamp produces light that is carefully filtered in two ways to ensure that only light with the correct wavelengths reaches your skin. The light that is allowed through has been chosen because it is the sort that two natural body substances respond to. Age spots contain melanin, and capillaries contain haemoglobin. When cells containing a lot of melanin or haemoglobin are hit with the right type of light, they heat up and are destroyed.
FAQs
How long does an IPL treatment take?
A large area can be treated quickly, a full face takes around 20 mins. 3-6 treatments are recommended.
Does it hurt?
Tolerance of pain varies from person to person. The sensation is a little like a rubber band snapping on the surface of the skin and it often feels warm for the rest of the day. We use cryo cooling which the patient can direct onto the skin whilst the treatment is taking place – this makes the treatment considerably more comfortable.
What will happen after the treatment?
Your skin may appear as though you have mild sunburn for a few days. You should be able to resume normal activities right away, but your skin should be protected from direct sunlight during recovery. The treated lesions will appear slightly darker at first, but will gradually flake away. Visible results can be seen within a week or two, but a full month or longer will be needed to see final results.
