What can I expect during a manual lymphatic drainage treatment?

During a manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) treatment, Anticipate gentle, rhythmic movements directed towards specific areas of the body. The therapist applies light pressure, as lymph nodes are highly sensitive to touch and can collapse with too much pressure preventing movement of lymph, toxins and waste. This delicate touch stimulates lymphatic vessels, promoting lymph fluid flow. You may feel warmth or tingling sensations as circulation improves.

Is the treatment painful?

No, the manual lymph drainage is a gentle massage to improve the lymph flow. With rhythmic pressure impulses and gentle pumping action, the drainage of tissue fluid via the lymph and venous system is encouraged.

How often should I have the treatment?

You will talk through your treatment prior to starting MLD. How often you are required to come will be discussed before starting depending on what your concerns are.

What are the Do’s & Don’ts after my treatment?

After your treatment you will be advised to:
– Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
– Stay hydrated, preferably with electrolytes.
– Avoid heavy meals
– Practise deep breathing
